1st Day – ‘Dhanteras’

Here Dhan refers to richness, wealth and teras has been used to refer to the 13th day of the lunar fortnight as established by the Hindu calendar. This day celebrates prosperity, and on this day Goddess Lakshmi is welcomed by purchasing some gold items. Dhanvantari, an incarnation of Vishnu, who is believed to have introduced the concept of Ayurveda is also welcomed by most Ayurvedic doctors. As a part of fun and enjoyment, people play cards on this day.
